NEW YORK - May 28, 2019 -PRLog-- The Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan in March 2011 unleashed the largest amount of radioactive material ever discharged into the ocean in recorded history. What's worse, it continues to this very day.
With the 2020 Olympics Games headed to Tokyo, and now featuring baseball and softball to be played in Fukushima's Azuma Stadium, what plans are there to keep visitors healthy and safe? Are there any risks? Because health complications from radiation exposure often show up years later, will athletes and visitors be willing to take potentially lethal risks? Official sources are saying "everything is fine" but can they be trusted since they've not been very transparent in the past?
Author of the new book "Fukushima 311," Col. Walter T. Richmond, doesn't trust the official government assurances one bit. In his book, the author looks at Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster that began on March 11, 2011 – now infamously known as "311" – and which sadly continues to this very day.
Based on his research, Col. Richmond noted he found that "Every day, citizen-scientists in Japan are taking readings and discovering unsafe radioactive levels all over the Fukushima region and far beyond. At the same time, thyroid cancer levels have spiked. Yet no one is raising any major alarms. Why is that?"
Although apologists have explained the high thyroid cancer rates as a result of doctors "aggressively" looking for thyroid cancer, the author thinks there is far more to the story. "Blaming high thyroid cancer rates on aggressive examinations and downplaying the radioactive connection is scary" said Richmond.
According to Richmond, the truth may be grounded more in economics than safety concerns. "It's about money. Radiation is really bad for business and really bad for tourism. Is the Japanese government simply hoping that everything will blow over and the 2020 Olympics, which is a critical economic and morale booster, will overshadow any concerns?" Richmond warned that "Since health effects and cancers from nuclear radiation exposure can literally take years to manifest, chances are people won't get sick immediately, if ever. But why would anyone roll the dice on their health? The research we did for this book paints a very disturbing radioactive picture compared to the marketing hype and warm lullabies coming out of Japan."
When asked if he was planning on attending the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and the baseball games in Fukushima, Richmond said simply, "Based on what our research revealed - Hell no!"
In closing, Richmond stressed, "Who can you trust or believe? The Japanese Olympic Committee president recently resigned amid corruption allegations. Seriously. In this case, you need to get an impartial international group of nuclear radiation experts, not beholding to the Japanese government, to certify the radioactive health safety of the facilities and anywhere else people will be eating and staying. No amount of radiation is healthy.... Not one bit. So what are the actual radiation levels? Who knows... I hope someone gets this message to the athletes, the US Olympic Team and all the others, so that they can join in and ask for serious, thorough, and impartial radioactivity danger testing. At least then one can make a more informed decision on whether it's worth participating based on hard scientific data not marketing hype..."
