Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana mentioned again in an interview of their desire to acquire 2 more Pohang-class corvettes from South Korea.
He also confirmed that South Korea did inform them that 2 more Pohang-class corvettes are available for transfer.
The question now is, why is it taking too long? It would be remembered that the Philippine Navy confirmed that grants for Pohang-class corvettes are connected to the awarding of the Corvette Acquisition Project to a South Korean shipbuilder.
With the project shelved until Horizon 3, how can the PN get 2 more Pohang-class? And how come some of the receipients of donated Pohang--class corvettes did not require the acquisition of a major Korean-made weapon system? Is there something lacking in the DND's negotiating skills? How about budget, despite being free the PN spent Php250 million to fix the ROKS Chungju and pay for billeting and airfare for crew and other expenses.
Anyway lets see how they will push through with this plan.
